Lured & Hooked: 12 of the Best Seafood Restaurants in Perth

Since Western Australia has the longest coast with the most, our city is abundant in delicious seafood restaurants.

Boasting over 20,000 kilometres of pristine coastline, Western Australia is rightly famed for its seafood. Fremantle octopus, scallops, Akoya, blue swimmer crab, Western Rock Lobster, prawns, tuna, dhufish, Spanish mackerel, whiting and snapper are a constant fixture on menus across the state.

With that in mind, we’ve happily gone fishing for some of the best seafood restaurants in Perth, dedicated to showcasing the fruits de mer in the most delicious way.

Art of Seafood

Since you’re eating seafood, it makes perfect sense to be cosied up by the water along the Swan River at Art of Seafood, where the only thing competing with the views are the impressive seafood towers. Seafood lovers can’t get enough of the natural oysters, Beluga caviar and bluefin tuna, to name a few treasures from the deep blue sea, often adorned with a heaping of shaved Manjimup truffles. Meat lovers aren’t left out either, with the Black Angus fillet served with lobster. Get fancy with a Sunday High Tea, or take it down a notch with a snack on the deck paired with a Margaret River sauvignon blanc. Sheer seafood bliss.

306 TA2 Riverside Drive, East Perth

Kailis

When George Palassis Kailis arrived in Perth in 1914 with a rich maritime history to his name, it’s unlikely he envisioned the family name would still be serving exceptional seafood over a century later at Kailis Bros in Leederville, not to mention the take-home goodies from their on-site fish market. The legacy continues with his sons running the Kailis Hospitality Group. with waterside restaurants such as The Shorehouse (Swanbourne), Canteen Trigg and Island Market (Trigg) and Kailis’ Fishmarket Café (Fremantle) under the family umbrella. As you can imagine, there’s a fascinating story behind this iconic family, and we can’t help returning time and time again for the sweeping ocean vistas and menus showcasing the best of WA’s seafood.

Kailis Bros, 101 Oxford Street, Leederville

Kailis Fishmarket Café, Fishing Boat Harbour, 46 Mews Road, Fremantle

Island Market and Canteen Trigg, 364 West Coast Highway, Trigg

The Shorehouse, 278 Marine Parade, Swanbourne

Ciccerello’s

The Western Australian tradition of indulging in fish ‘n chips at sunset continues at Ciccerello’s since its opening in Fremantle a century ago. While you can’t go past traditional fish and chips at one of the best seafood restaurants Perth, the chilli mussels and seafood chowder are sure to warm the cockles as the cooler weather descends. The experience is heightened with the largest private aquarium in the state showcasing local and tropical sea life – finding Nemo won’t be a problem, especially when hosting a special occasion here, a kid’s birthday especially. Next time you’re in Mandurah, check out their second venue sitting pretty along the foreshore.

The Lobster Pier

You’ve got to love the simplicity of picking an ingredient and doing it really well every time. Take the Lobster Pier

Oyster Bar

Situated in Elizabeth Quay, hovering between the city’s edge and the Swan River, you’ll love the views at Oyster Bar, served with oysters sourced from the finest oyster farms in the country. Enjoy this beloved delicacy chilled a la natural, grilled Kilpatrick, in a multitude of ways. Don’t despair if oysters aren’t a taste you’ve yet acquired, as the menu here also features a range of seafood treasures, from Fremantle octopus and Exmouth prawns, to beef ribs and platters designed to be shared over local and international bubbles and wines. It’s truly one of the top seafood restaurants Perth has to offer.

Lobster Shack

Sometimes driving to the source is well worth the journey, especially in the charming coastal town of Cervantes, approximately 90 minutes north of Perth. Since the 1960s, the Thompson family have been instrumental in the Western Rock Lobster industry and opened The Lobster Shack in 2010. Indeed there are few things as wonderful as sitting back with a local brew and succulent lobster while overlooking the expansive Indian Ocean. We’re also a big fan of a bucket of Carnarvon King Prawns, WA fresh abalone and traditional fish ‘n chips available here.

Since you’ve made the journey, why not delve into this lucrative industry with a tour of their production factory, or join a sea lion tour. Cervantes is only a short drive from the mysterious Pinnacles, best experienced at dusk or dawn, so we recommend staying overnight or longer at the Pinnacles Edge Resort or Cervantes Lodge – and why not grab some fresh lobster for the BBQ? Is this not the perfect weekend experience outside of Perth?

37 Catalonia Street, Cervantes

Madalena’s Bar & Restaurant

Evolving along with the seasons, Madalena’s has proudly teamed up with Finns Seafood and local farmers to serve up some of the freshest, most sustainably caught seafood available in Perth. We can’t decide which dishes are our favourites, although the Abrolhos Islands red throat emperor, Manjimup rainbow trout, Albany sardines and Fremantle cuttlefish keep us coming back. If you’re as indecisive, then just leave yourself in the chef’s hands with a degustation designed to be shared, followed by a post-dinner saunter into historic Fremantle.

406 South Terrace, South Fremantle

Easter might be over for another year, but that doesn’t mean you can’t indulge in seafood year round or test your culinary skills with these seafood recipes.

Clancy’s Fish Bar

Sailing high above the crystal clear waters of the Indian Ocean, Clancy’s Fish Bar City Beach boasts one of the most beautiful locations in the West – and is one of the the best seafood restaurants in Perth making the most of the West Australian coast. The colourful, light and breezy vibes also help in making this a must try spot.

Laidback lunches with fresh fish and chips and a glass of your favourite wine are hard to beat, or grab a craft beer and share a fresh and fancy seafood platter as the sun dips into the ocean.

Servo

‘Tis always the season of sun drenched saturnalia, spritzes, dirty martinis, and marvellous, magical, WA seafood at this Leederville hot spot. We recommend ordering all the seafood dishes available at the Servo

Nieuw Ruin

Good cocktails, good food and weird wine is the motto behind Nieuw Ruin, a small bar and eatery stocked full of innovation and fun. Super fresh, hyper-local produce interweaves throughout the food menu; choose between relaxed snacks at the bar or a generous dinner at the communal tables.

The seafood dishes here are particularly good. We recommend sipping on the rum-based Popcorn Pina Colada, and pairing it with a plate of oysters, fig-pickled mussels, followed by the charcoal octopus with padron peppers and romesco.

12 Norfolk Street, Fremantle

Bathers Beach House

Just three steps from the white sounds of Fremantle’s Bathers Beach, it’s easy to see why Bathers Beach House is one of the best seafood restaurants in Perth. The primo location for a post-swim, pre-sunset bounty of the sea dinner; fill up buckets of prawns and crispy fish and chips, paired with a refreshing pint or cocktail. It seriously doesn’t get much better than this.
